In 1998, Vocal Essence and the American Composers Forum joined forces to offer an annual contest encouraging the composition of new carols. Over the years hundreds of worthy carols have been submitted, and as a result, a veritable cornucopia of beautiful new settings and original carols has been created. Behold, This Heavenly Night presents the world premieres of some of these contest-winning carols alongside outstanding arrangements of more familiar melodies. In 2009 VocalEssence was privileged to perform the U.S. premiere of John Rutter's new 'Carol of the Magi' and the live concert recording appears here. To top it all off, a unique arrangement of 'Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer' translated into Latin by Philip Brunelle and his son Christopher. New, old, transformed, translated 'Behold, This Heavenly Night' offers a fresh discovery of choral music to delight the senses as you savor the most musical of American holidays.
