Cathy Wurzer, Minnesota Public Radio News host of Morning Edition—and four-time Emmy® winner—takes us on a wondrous journey of Minnesota’s historic and iconic Highway 61.
For 440 miles, the mostly two-lane highway—captured in song by Bob Dylan—stretches from near the Canadian border to southeastern Minnesota. Along the way, it travels the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior, shoots through the heart of the Twin Cities then hugs the Mississippi river bluffs to Red Wing, Winona and La Crescent. Wurzer tells the stories of people and places she finds. She lets us visit quaint tourist cabins, supper clubs, and lodges from the 1920s, then goes inside a Knife River smokehouse, a Willow River rutabaga plant, and a Red Wing pottery factory. This is the work of a true road scholar.
